The advanced research methodology helps students gain skills in the design of conceptually cogent and methodologically rigorous research proposals. The module has an emphasis on topics that relate to Africa, but can be applied to a broad range of research issues, applying advanced qualitative and quantitative research methods to design and undertake a study. It seeks to deepen skills in critical literature review and scientific writing.  It seeks to deepen practical skills on handling advanced statistical and epidemiological methods and procedures in research design, data collection, data analysis, as well as making inferences from results obtained. This is to ensure that students’ work must make a good contribution to learning and demonstrate a capacity to relate the research that the student carries out to the broader framework in community partnerships approach in health and development while meeting required standards.

The research internship is a unique, intensive training opportunity for junior researchers who wish to launch their research career and work locally and internationally.
